Produce Business Analyst - Sustainability
Accountability: Senior Director - Sustainability
Salary: $70,000
Term: 12-month contract
Position Summary
CPMA is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented business analyst for a 12-month contract, in Ottawa, to help develop and enhance the economic sustainability outcomes for our members. The ideal candidate will help support the development of frameworks, tools, and guidance to help members mitigate costs related to the implementation of sustainability-related activities, including packaging, food loss and waste (FLW), and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as well as mitigate costs associated with sustainability reporting burdens.
This role requires a background in business analytics or the economics of sustainability to support the analysis, development and implementation of strategies that address the financial risks and opportunities of sustainability initiatives.
Position Responsibilities
- Support the design and implementation of frameworks that integrate economic or business analytics for CPMA sustainability projects which include EPR, GHG reduction, plastics and food loss and waste.
- Provide strategic guidance to enhance economic considerations across all workplan activities.
- Support the development of tools and guidance that enable CPMA members to make economically sound decisions across sustainability initiatives. This includes minimizing financial risks from:
- Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees and Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) content.
- Strategies to reduce food loss and waste.
- Costs associated with Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions and sequestration.
- Sustainability reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Apply economic sustainability principles across environmental initiatives to mitigate financial risks and enhance strategic planning.
- Assist the Senior Director – Sustainability in executing the CPMA Sustainability Committee workplan and managing committee operations.
- Conduct research and engage with industry stakeholders to inform CPMA’s sustainability positions, draft policy recommendations, and represent CPMA on external committees and working groups to advocate for economically sound sustainability practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Languages:
Demonstrated fluency (spoken and written) in English; Bilingualism (English & French) an asset, but not essential.
Skills and Capabilities
- Background in business analytics or the economics of sustainability with experience in the fresh produce sector, the agri-food sector at large, or equivalent qualifications.
- University or college degree in a related field.
- A minimum of one to three years of relevant experience working within the fresh produce or agri-food industry directly, or working indirectly with industry, such as through an association, in a business analysis, applied research capacity, or other relevant capacity.
- Detail oriented with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including writing, editing, and tailoring materials for a variety of audiences.
- Strong computer and analytical skills, including experience using the Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to travel domestically as required.
