Unique Product Identification
To help the grocery retail and produce industries stay focused on the importance of unique identification of all fresh food products, GS1 US, in collaboration with the Canadian Produce Marketing Association, the Produce Marketing Association and United Fresh Produce Association, has developed two informational flyers for the community. These documents are designed to summarize the latest industry-driven trends as they relate to the use of GS1 Standards in improving supply chain processes.
The flyer From Generic U.P.C. to Brand Owner-Specific U.P.C. highlights how the use of brand owner-specific GTINs enables trading partners to tie product information to brand owners and improve category management while also enhancing product traceability and business efficiencies.
The flyer Unique Product Identification Addresses Various Business Process Needs summarizes recent industry trends and how they are converging around unique product identification. The document highlights the benefits of the Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) for packaged produce, use of GS1 DataBar barcode, as well as the Produce Traceability Initiative.
