WHO Declares H1N1 Pandemic
On Thursday, June 11, 2009 the World Health Organization raised the status of the H1N1 influenza virus to an influenza pandemic. In a recent press release, Dr. Margaret Chan, WHO Director General stated “No previous pandemic has been detected so early or watched so closely, in real-time, right at the very beginning. The world can now reap the benefits of investments, over the last five years, in pandemic preparedness.”

The WHO continues to state that the H1N1 pandemic has no impact on trade or travel.
